What another great week at TRS! Our hallways and classrooms continue to be filled with learning, laughter, connection, and the kind of everyday moments that make our school such a special place. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for continuing to show up for one another and for helping us build a strong sense of Kindness. Community. Heart. Each week, we see more examples of students finding their voice, taking ownership of their learning, and contributing to the community around them. It is a privilege to be part of this incredible TRS community!
October 8 Picture Day
Please remember that October 8th is our picture day at TRS- We will try to ensure that most student photos are completed in the morning, but may require additional time in the afternoon. If your child misses photo day, no panic necessary. We will have a re-take day in the near future to ensure that everyone's photo is snapped!
Alien-Inline Skating
One of our traditions at TRS!! There will be additional information coming home soon regarding our inline skating program that we offer yearly, as well as fees applied to your mycbe/powerschool account. Please ensure that fees are paid promptly! All students are welcomed to take part in this activity!

TRS Fall Family Survey
Please consider taking a few minutes to complete the TRS Fall Family Survey. The data we collect helps us to make informed decisions about programming for our community, and helps us to best understand the needs of the community. The survey can be accessed HERE.
Swimming
After consult with staff and families, we have made the decision to continue the swimming program at TRS. There will be details to follow, but know that we will be asking for volunteers in mid-November to support our transitions at Sir Winston Churchill Pool. Thank you for your responses to the swimming survey that was sent out at the beginning of the month. The results were 80% in favour of Swimming, 20% not in favour, with more that 130 respondants. EVERY CHILD WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE PART IN EVERY FIELD TRIP OR IN-SCHOOL EXPERIENCE- with thanks to our school council and fundraising society.
Attendance
As the days go by, we are closely monitoring student attendance, including lates and absences. There are some patterns developing, and I will be reaching out to some families next week in order to discuss the importance of arriving on time each morning, and attending daily if not sick. For students with lower attendance rates, we will work with them in order to set attendance goals in school. Often, once students arrive, they are quickly able to recover and carry on with their days.
Communication Strategy
At Terrace Road School, we believe strong communication with families is essential to supporting student success and ensuring that there are no surprises at student conferences or during reporting periods. Throughout the year, we use a variety of intentional communication strategies to keep families informed about their child’s learning and progress. Teaching teams will use plastic zipper folders to regularly send home artifacts of learning, accompanied by rubrics and other assessment information so families can see what their child is learning and how they are progressing. Classroom blogs will be updated weekly to provide a window into classroom learning, while the Principal’s Week at a Glance will keep families connected to important school-wide information, events, and reminders. These ongoing communications are complemented by meetings, phone calls, and emails when more individualized communication is needed. Together, these approaches create a continuous partnership between home and school, ensuring that families have a clear understanding of their child’s learning, strengths, areas for growth, and next steps well before formal reporting times.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend, everyone! We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday!
