Dear Terrace Road Families,
First of all, I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend with the beautful weather outside--- it would appear that spring has finally arrived. We are looking forward to an amazing week with our cricket residency which has been paid in fully our wonderful Terrace Road School Council! Thank you so much to all families and students for taking part in our community dance last Thursday-- it is really special to gather as a community throughout the year- thank you for making that happen.
The School Development Plan in Action at TRS
Across the school, it has been wonderful to see the depth and pride in student writing. Last week, our Grade 5 and 6 students shared beautiful pieces inspired by Where I’m From poems—writing that thoughtfully captured their identities, experiences, and the people and places that have shaped who they are. These pieces were heartfelt, reflective, and a true celebration of each student’s unique story.
At the same time, our Grade 3 and 4 students demonstrated strong paragraph writing skills as they brought their learning to life through detailed descriptions connected to their diorama projects. Their writing clearly reflected their research, with well-organized ideas and vivid details that helped communicate their understanding in meaningful ways.
It is inspiring to see such growth in writing across all grade levels, and we are proud of the care and effort students are putting into sharing their thinking.
TRS Crocus Hunt
Last year at Terrace Road School, we started a new tradition for one of the first signs of spring in Alberta, which is the appearance of the crocus. We would love to continue that traditional this year- once the snow has most cleared, we invite families to go on walks and snap some beautiful photos of the crocus, which welcomes our beautiful Alberta Spring. We will add these to our Crocus Bulletin Board in our main foyer, now known internally as the Confluence- where the Bow Hallway meets the Elbow Hallway in our school. Crocus photos can be emailed to djbuchanan@cbe.ab.ca.
From Ms. Austin for students attending TB Riley Next Year
|
Dear Next Year Students and Parents, Tomorrow is the final deadline to choose complementary courses for next year at Thomas B. Riley school. All students are required to choose their top three choices for complementary courses for the Fall 2026 by Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in Powerschool. Instructions are outlined below. Selections made after this date and any additional changes following May 5 are not able to be accommodated. Please take your time to choose carefully and complete with your child. Students Attending TB Riley Next School Year:
**Note: Band is a FULL year course. If you choose band you will still need to select two other complementary courses, however Band is what you will be scheduled for in the Fall. Please keep in mind that all course selections and scheduling is based on course availability and space. Selections will be automatically scheduled through Powerschool and not completed manually this year by administration. If you miss the deadline for course selection your child will be scheduled into courses where there is space and availability. Students Not Attending TB Riley School Next Year: If you are receiving this email, your child is designated to TB Riley next year. If you have other plans and will not be attending TB Riley it is important you call the school or email Mrs. Austin at taaustin@cbe.ab.ca to let us know. Classes are planned based on the number of students expected each year and it important our numbers are accurate in order to ensure reasonable class size limits and adequate resources for our school. Thank you for your attention to this. Please let us know if you have any questions by replying to this email. Sincerely, Tiffany Austin Principal, Thomas B. Riley School |
Run Club
Dear families,
We are back for another round of run club. We will start the
Youth Run Club on April 28, 2026. Our club will meet on Tuesday and Thursday
mornings (April 28 – May 14) at
8:05 a.m. We will meet on the compound by the blue ball drop. We will finish in
time for soft entry (approximately 8:35 a.m.).
All students in grades K-6 are invited to join, regardless of fitness level or
experience with running. Students are encouraged to work at their own level.
Walking breaks can be taken when necessary, and students will gradually build
their stamina with each run they do. They will have opportunities to run on the field and develop an understanding of how to run up and down hills. We will sometimes run through the community, practicing what we are learning.
This program is offered at no cost. To help your child be successful, please ensure they arrive prepared on run days. Please ensure they come to school with clothing appropriate for the weather conditions (we will be outside), proper running footwear (sandals, crocs and boots are not permitted), and water to stay hydrated. On wet days, they may wish to have a change of clothes.
Please inform coaches of any health conditions we need to be aware of to keep your child safe while participating in the Youth Run Club.
If your child is nervous about joining Youth Run Club, please reassure them that everyone is welcome and encourage them to give it a try. Participants don’t have to be runners to join or enjoy the games and skills being taught. Everyone can run at their own pace and therefore achieve success.
If your child wants to join the run club, please complete the form below and return it to the coaches at our first meeting on April 28th.
