Dear Terrace Road Families,
It was so great to connect with everyone last week at our School Council Meetings and then again the next evening at our TRS Open House! If you were unable to attend the open house, but would like to see your child’s classroom, or if you would like to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their learning in a more in-depth manner, please reach out to the teacher and they will make sure to book a time to connect and discuss!
We have a short, but busy week of learning this week at TRS, with the Student Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday and then our Terry Fox Assembly and Run on Thursday!
Student Lates
We are seeing a number of students arriving late every day. These lates add up in instructional time, and have an impact on student learning. If you require support in ensuring your child arrives on time daily, please do reach out and we will make a plan to ensure students arrive by 8:36!
AMA School Patrols
Our school patrols have started back up again! Patrols are out at our crossing before school starting at 8:20 a.m. and after school from 3:25 until 3:35 each each. Please be aware of rules within school zones and drive to keep our students safe!
Apple Fundraiser Pick-Up
Thank you so much for taking part in our Apple Fundraiser this year. The pick-up for apples will be via the front door on September 24 from 3-5 p.m. The money that we raise supports our programming and ensures that we can be equitable in our processes for families and students alike!
TRS SWAG
The final day to order your TRS Swag will be Sunday, September 29 via our online store. The store can be accessed HERE. There will be no late orders accepted. We need to ensure we have a minimum order, or we will be unable to process any orders. Please order ASAP.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The 4th annual City of Calgary, Calgary Board of Education, and Calgary Catholic School District ceremonial opening of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day will be held on Monday, Sept. 30 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (750 9th Ave. S.E.).
All CBE staff, students, families, friends, and neighbours are invited to attend to commemorate residential school victims, honour survivors, and commit to Truth & ReconciliACTION.
Clubs
A part of the fabric of Terrace Road School that makes our community so amazing is our student-run clubs. Clubs will be starting up soon, with club forms available for students in the office beginning the first week of October. We encourage all students interested in running a club to grab a form with the understanding that we will do our best to ensure we support the club, but also that it is ok to hear ‘no’ or ‘not yet’, and then make new plans- this helps to build student resiliency in a supportive environment.
Snacks and Food
Food is vital for learning and at TRS, we ensure that students have access to healthy snacks in the morning and in the afternoon. Can you please have a conversation with your child(ren) to see if their snacks/lunches are sufficient? We are definitely supplying more than usual. If you are unable to provide more food, no worries at all- we've got you covered, but as kids grow, they often require an uptick in quantity of food from home.
Online Forms
Our yearly demographic forms are due today (demographics and annual authorization forms and Citizenship Information Updates. These forms are accessed through your MyCBE/PowerSchool Account and then clicking through your School Engage Tile. If you have not yet created a MyCBE/Powerschool Account, please go here and follow the instructions HERE.
Communication
Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom! Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.
Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.
Art Cards
Our school is taking part in an Art Cards Project this year whereby families can order cards with their child's art on them for holiday events, birthdays etc. Please look for further information for ordering cards in October, as student art is not due from the teacher until the beginning of October.
Volunteering
At various points in the year, there will be an opportunity for parents to volunteer for school field trips, in-house programs, and community events. If you are interested in signing up, please email our amazing Volunteer Coordinator, Amber, to join her distribution list: amberhamilton12@gmail.com Thank you for helping to support our programming at TRS!!
Have a wonderful week, everyone and please feel free to check out the teach blogs here:
