Good morning and Happy Monday, Terrace Road School Families! We are excited to welcome your students back into our building for another amazing week of learning and building connections at Terrace Road School!
Orange Shirt Day
On September 26 at TRS, we invite all members of our Terrace Road School Family to wear an orange shirt to school as an act of ReconciliACTION. The Orange shirt is a symbol of the on-going intergenerational impact of Residential Schools on Indiegenous Peoples of Canada. For more information, please see this website: https://orangeshirtday.org/whats-new/
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day is a commemorative day led by Indigenous communities to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on children, families, and communities. It honours Indigenous children who were lost in the residential school system.
The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”.
On September 30, we encourage all Canadians to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.
Healthy Hunger
We are all set for another year of fun lunches and fun snacks!
If you don’t have a Healthy Hunger account, please go to healthyhunger.ca and register your student by creating a parent account.
Once you’ve created your account, you can go ahead and order lunches and snacks for your student.
We will be having one fun lunch and one fun snack per month, except for February when we will only have a fun snack.
Only students who are in kindergarten AND attend Summit Kids in the afternoon are able to order, as the lunches will be delivered to the Summit class room.
Please be aware the cut off date for ordering lunches/snacks is 5 days before the event at 11:59pm. For example, our first lunch is Thursday October 16, there for the cut off will be Saturday October 11 at 11:59 pm.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to the office and we will connect you with our Healthy Hunger Lead, Katie Messel.
Clothing Donations
We are seeing a rise in the need for particular clothing items at Terrace Road School. We need pants in sizes ranging from 5 years to 12 years. We would also love to have some shoes in our collection, underwear (NEW and in all genders) and socks. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Communication at TRS
Our goal at Terrace Road School is to maintain timely, open, and effective communication with all families. We want everyone to feel connected to what students are learning in class and aware of upcoming activities.
This year, you can expect:
- Weekly classroom blog updates from teachers
- Communication folders with current learning artifacts
- Phone calls from teachers to share successes and maintain strong connections
- TRS Instagram: @terraceroadcbe for a window into the learning happening at Terrace Road School.
We believe that working in partnership with families helps every child thrive, and we look forward to ongoing collaboration throughout the year.
School Council
Our first School Council meeting will take place on Thursday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. I encourage all families to come out and take part in this important council, which plays a direct role in supporting student learning and strengthening the sense of community at Terrace Road School. Your voice and perspective are invaluable, and we hope to see many of you there.
