Dear Terrace Road Families,

Welcome back to another solid week of learning at Terrace Road School! This is our first full week in a while, and for a while, so teachers are all excited to dig in to the tasks and projects that they have designed.

This is a busy week at TRS, punctuated by Picture Day on Thursday, and TRS School Council on Thursday Evening! Our Grade 5/6 community will be going on their first field trip of the year as well this week, as they make their way to Yamnuska to take part in a land-based learning opportunity with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS).

Classroom Sharing Circles

Each week, I have the opportunity of joining classes at TRS for a sharing circle. Some classes do sharing circles on a daily basis, some choose to do sharing circles to open and close their weeks. I enjoy getting the opportunity to connect with individual learners and classroom communities during this sacred time. We follow CBE Indigenous Protocols for sharing circles, and there is generally a theme or a question posed as in invite to learners. This week, I have asked classes to consider the following provocation: “How can we hold each other up at Terrace Road School?” Students are serious and contemplate as they share personal ideas and listen to those of their peers. We will have the chance to put our ideas on a community bulletin board as well that we will share out with the school community at November interviews.

Art Card Fundraiser

We are so happy to be able to offer our Art Cards Project this year. Please take a look at the attached document in the side panel that outlines the timeframe and how to order.  We can start ordering cards beginning on October 18, 2024. The school code and the ordering website are found in the side panel of this site.

Communication

Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom!  Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.

Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.

Have a wonderful week, everyone and please feel free to check out the teach blogs here:
