Clothing

We have had several families reach out and ask if they can donate food to our school. We believe we have enough snacks for now in order to ensure that no one goes hungry while at school. However, we could use some donations of gently used or new clothing—sweat pants, t-shirts and boys and girls underwear, are particularly low (more in our kindergarten-Grade 3 bins). If you have any gently used items, or if you happen to have new gear that you do not need, we would gladly accept it!

Lost and Found

The irony is not lost on me that in my second update, we are communicating that we have an abundance of unclaimed clothing in our lost and found—it is a giant mass of clothing that will be donated in the next little while. We will send home pictures this week, or if you feel you are missing any items at home, please feel free to come in and take a look!  We have two lost and found locations… near our k-2 entrance, and right near our main entrance.

Warm Clothes and Change of Shoes

Now that winter is unleashing on us today, just a friendly reminder that students need to come dressed appropriately for the weather, as the CBE's policy is that we will continue to go outside until the temperature value reaches -20 inclusive of windchill.

We also need to ensure that all students have a change of shoes so that our halls stay clean and dry.

Thank you!

Celebration of Learning

Each month, a different class at Terrace Road School will be hosting a TRS Celebration of Learning in our gym instead of our usual Monday Morning Message. The theme of the assembly will be community and excellence in learning. The Celebration of Learning will be hosted and run by students, and we are so excited for our first Celebration of Learning today hosted by Ms. Garthus’ class!  We will be unveiling our NEW TERRACE ROAD Pledge, whish was written by ALL students, collated by the Student Advisory Council, and finalized by our grade 5/6 leaders. The pledge honors our previous pledge, but speaks more to our students and our current community and context. The TRS Pledge is:

Terrace Road Pledge

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

We are kind, responsible and considerate.

We are accountable for our voices and our choices.

We show respect for ourselves, others and our environment.

We embrace our differences and recognize our gifts.

We strive for excellence, give compliments, and lift each other up.

We are a resilient community with integrity in all that we do.

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

TRS Clubs

Club forms are in and we are busily going through the offerings to organize them to the best of our abilities. Student-led clubs are important to the culture at Terrace Road School, and our staff is second to none in supporting students and their endeavors while at school. We look forward to what opportunities lie ahead!!

Fall Dance

We have our Fall Dance coming up on Thursday, October 24. The K-2 portion of the dance will occur from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Students must be supervised by their parents at all times. The grade 3-6 portion of our dance will occur from 7:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Again, all students must be supervised by their parents/guardians. We LOVE our former students, but this is not the time for them to visit. This is a time for our current community to connect. If you can volunteer to help at our dance, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040D4FA5AA2FA5FB6-52328046-trshalloween

Casino Volunteers NEEDED!!!

Our TRS Fundraising Society Casino is coming up on December 4th and 5th. We are able to provide so much for our students because of these two nights!  We typically raise between $70000 to $80000 which provides:

1.      Field trips

2.      In-school experiences

3.      Technology

4.      Library Books

5.      Resources

Because this Casino fundraiser can not run without volunteers, please do consider signing up to volunteer HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B48ADAB23A4FB6-52238685-trscasino

Also, Casino Volunteers often get a good meal and great company!!!

Art Card Fundraiser

“The children's art is online and we are ready to launch the fundraiser!

Families can see their child's art online at www.TheCardProject.ca

with the school's access code: TR78

The priority order deadline is Sunday, October 27.

The final order deadline is Monday, November 11.”

 Communication

Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom!  Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.

Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Feel free to stop in at any point- we love voluneers and visitors!
