Lock Down Practice Today
Today is our first Lock Down Practice of the school year. The Lock Down Practice will occur around 11:00 a.m. During the practice, students and staff sit quietly under their designated GREEN DOTS in the classroom, which are typically high up on a wall adjacent to the door. The Calgary Police Service is involved, and they come around with me to each classroom to see hour our students and staff did in terms of their processes and responsibilities. We take our practice lockdowns and fire drills very seriously, but we will always let students know in advance in order to reduce anxiety and prepare students to understanding the WHY of a Lock Down practice.

TRS Clubs
This week, we are making TRS Student-led club forms available in the office. We believe that clubs, in order to build community and student agency/voice, need to be student-driven and led. We are happy to support and consider ALL club ideas, but we also believe that it is important for students to hear ‘not right now’- as not all clubs can happen in this first round of clubs. Students will be responsible for planning, timing, organizing, and finding a teacher sponsor for their club. We can’t wait to see what students come up with!
Fall Dance
We have our Fall Dance coming up on Thursday, October 24. The K-2 portion of the dance will occur from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Students must be supervised by their parents at all times. The grade 3-6 portion of our dance will occur from 7:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Again, all students must be supervised by their parents/guardians. We LOVE our former students, but this is not the time for them to visit. This is a time for our current community to connect. If you can volunteer to help at our dance, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040D4FA5AA2FA5FB6-52328046-trshalloween
Casino
Our TRS Fundraising Society Casino is coming up on December 4th and 5th. We are able to provide so much for our students because of these two nights! We typically raise between $70000 to $80000 which provides:
1. Field trips
2. In-school experiences
3. Technology
4. Library Books
5. Resources
Because this Casino fundraiser can not run without volunteers, please do consider signing up to volunteer HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B48ADAB23A4FB6-52238685-trscasino
Also, Casino Volunteers often get a good meal and great company!!!
Art Card Fundraiser
We are so happy to be able to offer our Art Cards Project this year. Please take a look at the attached document in the side panel that outlines the timeframe and how to order. We can start ordering cards beginning on October 18, 2024. The school code and the ordering website are found in the side panel of this site.
Communication
Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom! Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.
Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Feel free to stop in at any point- we love voluneers and visitors!
