Good morning TRS families! It is so hard to believe that we are in our final week of November already and looking forward to our TRS Winter Celebration on December 12, and then holidays soon after!

I wanted to take this time to thank our volunteers from last week's swimming field trip. Taking the entire building swimming for 5 straight days is no easy feat, but we were able to pull it off with very few glitches. We could not have done this without our volunteers-- so with much gratitude, THANK YOU!!!

If you are missing any items from swimming, we did our best to collect them and bring them back to our school lost and found. That being said, if they are not here, then Churchill Pool does an excellent job of collecting and storing items within their lost and found.

Please do take a moment to fill in this survey regarding swimming:

Winter Concert

Mark your calendars! Students will perform this year's Winter Concert, Songs for a Season on Thursday, December 12thEveryone, K-6,  will participate in two performances of the concert, one dress rehearsal in the morning (time TBD) and a performance in the evening at 6:00pm. Details about arrival time for the evening will be sent before the concert. Students do not need any special costumes or clothing for these performances. They may dress up but this is not a requirement.

To support capacity challenges, this performance is for students and immediate family members only. We are asking each family to limit their attendance to 2-3 people as a maximum so that all students can have supporters in attendance. Should other family members wish to see the show, please consider attending the dress rehearsal during the day. There will not be tickets issued for either performance. Seating is first come, first served. Our intention in doing a whole school performance is to celebrate TRS spirit as we build community across all grades. The focus of these performances, as always, is to support musical understanding in a warm and welcoming environment that is fun and meaningful for the students.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for making time in busy schedules to come together and celebrate the students at Terrace Road School. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Katie McMillan at kamcmillan@cbe.ab.ca.

Wall Decal Assistance Call-Out!

We have a beautiful new decal to lay out on our wall--- the decal was designed here in Canada, and is of our new Terrace Road School Pledge. We would love to have some help from our greater community in ensuring the decal is put on straight and properly in our hallway outside of room 3.

Please email Dan if you can support or if you have expertise in this area! djbuchanan@cbe.ab.ca

Conferences

We will be having our fall conferences on November 28th and November 29. The conferences will be booked for 15 minute one-on-one intervals in order to allow teachers and families the time to meet and discuss student progress to date. The November 28th conferences will be during the evening, starting at 4:00 p.m. and with our last appointment being 7:45 p.m. We will email once conferences go live on November 22nd. MyCBE/Powerschool can be accessed HERE.

Holiday Giving

Once again this year, we are going to be supporting the Terrace Road Families in need during our Holiday Season! Last year, we were able to ensure that everyone had access to food, essentials, and some gifts during this time. This year, we are once again asking those who can to please consider donating gift cards to the school. We are particularly looking for gift cards of ANY denomination from Safeway, Superstore and Wal-Mart. Please bring the cards to Sherisse in the office and we will ensure that they are distributed to families before the break. Thank you in advance for your generosity! If you are sending the cards via student delivery, please make sure that your student is aware that the cards NEED to come directly to the office.

Staffing

The TRS family is growing and changing!  We would like to welcome the following new staff members:

Ms.  Margaret Gray- Education Assistant and lunch

Tracey Tran- New lunchroom supervisor

Ms. Rachel Ferguson-Farrar- Education Assistant and lunch supervisor

Ms. Renette Kurz- Literacy and Numeracy Teacher

Ms. Farhana Dar will be moving sites for lunchtime in order to take on a lead lunch position. We wish her all the best in her new role! Ms. Farhana will continue to run our breakfast program in the morning!

Purdy’s Chocolate Fundraiser

Our new fundraiser will be starting soon, with flyers being sent home later this week. The flyers will have qr codes on them that will take you to the site to order: fundraising.purdys.com. Our customer number is 78301. Orders need to be places by December 3, 2024. If you have any questions about orders, or the fundraiser in general, please connect with Mareea Ali at mareea.taqi@gmail.com

Casino

Our TRS Fundraising Society Casino is coming up on December 4th and 5th. We are able to provide so much for our students because of these two nights!  We typically raise between $70000 to $80000 which provides:

1.      Field trips

2.      In-school experiences

3.      Technology

4.      Library Books

5.      Resources

Because this Casino fundraiser can not run without volunteers, please do consider signing up to volunteer HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B48ADAB23A4FB6-52238685-trscasino

Also, Casino Volunteers often get a good meal and great company!!! We are still short a few volunteers, so please consider signing up to make a difference at Terrace Road School!

Terrace Road Pledge

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

We are kind, responsible and considerate.

We are accountable for our voices and our choices.

We show respect for ourselves, others and the land.

We honour our Spirit, Heart, Body and Mind.

We embrace our differences and recognize our gifts.

We strive for excellence, give compliments, and lift each other up.

We are a resilient community with integrity in all that we do.

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

Clothing

We have had several families reach out and ask if they can donate food to our school. We believe we have enough snacks for now in order to ensure that no one goes hungry while at school. However, we could use some donations of gently used or new clothing—sweat pants, t-shirts and boys and girls underwear, are particularly low (more in our kindergarten-Grade 3 bins). If you have any gently used items, or if you happen to have new gear that you do not need, we would gladly accept it!

Lost and Found

The irony is not lost on me that in my second update, we are communicating that we have an abundance of unclaimed clothing in our lost and found—it is a giant mass of clothing that will be donated in the next little while. We will send home pictures this week, or if you feel you are missing any items at home, please feel free to come in and take a look!  We have two lost and found locations… near our k-2 entrance, and right near our main entrance.

Art Card Fundraiser

“The children's art is online and we are ready to launch the fundraiser!

Families can see their child's art online at www.TheCardProject.ca

with the school's access code: TR78

The priority order deadline is Sunday, October 27.

The final order deadline is Monday, November 11.”

Communication

Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom!  Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.

Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.

Thank you for your continued support of our programming at TRS!

FYIs Sent home Wednesday

Good morning everyone,

There have been a few things pop up lately that we need your support with/you should be aware of!

1. Please label ALL student winter clothing. Our Lost and Found is GIANT,  and will be on display for conferences. Please take a look through for your child's belongings. Labelling saves grief, particularly in our younger grades. (but in older grades as well-- they're just too cool to admit it)

2. Please book your conferences if you have not yet done so- communication between all stakeholders is vital to learning and success in school!

3. Unless you are a student, you MUST enter the building through the front doors. Our tiny school is crowded, and having more adults in the building in the a.m. can be very challenging for teachers trying to do attendance and keep track of students. We are happy to have you in the building, but you must come through the front door.

4. Our Winter Celebration is on December 12th. We are excited to welcome immediate family to join us in the celebration! Please see Mrs. McMillan's email for more details.

5. We have 2 spots left to fill for the Casino! Please consider volunteering! It provides the school with so much opportunity for learning-- $80+ thousand dollars for the next 18 months!

6. Student Lates- We realize that life happens on occasion, but we really appreciate your support in ensuring students arrive on time to school. When students arrive late repeatedly, it is disruptive to learning, for both the class and for the student. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

7. We will be going outside every day UNLESS it is -20 with the windchill. Students must come prepared for the weather.

8. Winter break starts December 21-January 6.

Thanks so much for your continued support, families. It takes a village!
