Student-led Conferences

We are looking forward to welcoming families to our upcoming student-led conferences at Terrace Road School. Conferences will take place this Thursday from 4:00–8:00 pm, and again on March 13 until 4:00 pm.

Sign-up is now open through the MyCBE/PowerSchool portal, and we encourage families to book their preferred time as soon as possible.

Student-led conferences are an important opportunity for students to take an active role in sharing their learning. During these conferences, students guide their families through their work, reflect on their progress, and talk about their goals for the remainder of the year. This process helps build confidence, ownership, and a deeper understanding of their learning journey.

We look forward to seeing you and celebrating the growth and achievements of our students together.

Learning Commons Update

February has been a busy and meaningful month in the library! We explored and celebrated Lunar New Year, learned about inspiring individuals during Black History Month, promoted kindness on Pink Shirt Day, and acknowledged the beginning of Ramadan. Students have enjoyed discovering new stories connected to these observances, sparking thoughtful conversations and curiosity. Now, excitement is building as we look ahead to the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair happening March 9–13 — we can’t wait to see everyone find their next great read!

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Terrace Road School from March 9–12, with classes visiting in the mornings to explore exciting new books and reading treasures. Families are invited to shop together on March 13 from 1–5 pm during Student-led Conferences — a perfect opportunity to build home libraries while supporting our school. We are also seeking volunteers to help make this event a success. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Jackie Bouchard at jabouchard@cbe.ab.ca.

School Developent Plan

One of the areas of our School Development Plan that I am most excited about is the incredible growth in student engagement in Mathematics that I am seeing in classrooms across Terrace Road School. Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to spend time in many learning spaces, and it has been wonderful to see students actively involved in their learning through games, hands-on materials, and collaborative problem-solving.

Students are not only practicing skills, but also building a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematics. They are explaining their thinking, trying different strategies, and making meaningful connections between ideas. This balance of procedural fluency and conceptual understanding is helping students see mathematics as something they can explore, discuss, and truly understand.

I am very proud of the work our staff are doing to create rich, engaging math experiences, and of our students for the enthusiasm and persistence they are bringing to their learning each day.

On a side-note, during sharing circles this morning, I asked each student in grade 1/2 what they were most proud of so far this year, and the answers revolved consistently around aspects of math and writing!! This is huge success, and makes me so proud of our staff and learners!

School Council Drum Circle

Each year, our school council receive money from the Alberta Government in order to enhance the School Council and to grow the community. This year, on March 12, the School Council will be hosting a drum circle, where we will be learning about the nature of drum circles, taking part in the practice, and chatting! I will send out specific details today.
