Good Morning TRS families! We are excited to welcome everyone back to a busy, fun-filled week of learning at TRS! There is so much happening at TRS between now and the end of the school year, it's hard to believe we will fit it all in!
Daily Lates
We continue to process a number of lates on a daily basis- upwards of 20-30 per day. Each of these lates averages to roughly 10 minutes of lost school time in a day, which over the course of a month could equal 200 minutes of instructional time. If you recieve a letter from myself, please connect with the school to ensure we can work together on plan to reduce the number of lates, both this year and next.
Kindergarten- 2026/27
If you know anyone with kindergarten aged children that have not yet registered, please encourage them to do so promptly as we are constructing classes currently. All students who are registered with Summit Kids will automatically be placed in our a.m. kindergarten class, and all other students will be placed in the p.m. This is, of course open to discussion.
Survey Questions
How can we advocate for improvements to the outside of the school - even just new paint would be wonderful?
- We understand that the state of the building is not exactly eye-catching, particularly the back side and the paint. That being said, please know that I am advocating frequently for the board to consider allocating funds to give the school a bit of a facelift on the outside, particularly the salmon pink and rotted window frames. I will keep you posted on how this progresses!
The School Development Plan in Action
At Terrace Road School, we are proud of the growth our students have demonstrated in writing this year. As part of our school-wide literacy focus, teachers have been working with students using the Writing Rope, with particular attention to writing craft and the curricular outcomes that support strong written expression and communication. We recently completed our second common writing assessment, and the results showed significant growth across all grade levels when compared to our first assessment in January. Students demonstrated increased ability to develop and organize their ideas, select precise language, and communicate effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences. This growth reflects the dedication of our students, the expertise of our staff, and the intentional focus on writing instruction throughout the school. We are excited to continue building on this strong foundation and further develop our students’ identities as writers in the coming year.
TRS Grade Configuration and Team in 2026-2027
We are excited to present our configuration and teaching assignment plan for the 2026-27 school year at TRS. Each year, we spend time looking over scenarios, budget and possibilities within our school, always using student learning as our focal point and basis for decisions. Within this plan, there is still room for staffing changes, as teacher open rounds for job applications to other sites open up and teachers make decisions for their careers etc.

These staffing decisions are based on our current enrollment, and additional changes may occur prior to the end of September, as student numbers settle. Class sizes will remain quite small, ranging between 20-25 students.
Class Rosters
Our staff is currently putting some very intentional and thoughtful work into building class rosters for next year. When we make these decisions, there are a number of factors involved, including dynamics, friendships, learning, relationships with all staff, and student voice. As such, we will listen to parent requests always, but know that decisions can not always reflect parent asks, and that there will be a rationale for this. Teachers will reach out to students and families in late August welcoming them into their home rooms for the school year.
Garden Clean-Up Volunteer Sign-Up
Each year, we have a dedicated group of volunteers, that not only clean up our beautiful garden, but maintain it throughout the summer and early fall months. If you would like to volunteer for an initial clean-up of this important learning space, please do so HERE.
Sports Day

Grade 6 Celebration
Our Grade 6 celebration/farewell will be happening in the morning of June 24th at 11:00 a.m. Please come and celebrate these amazing learners as they prepare for the next steps in their academic journeys! There will be more details to follow!
