Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the mid-week edition of the TRS WAAG. I am sorry for the tardiness of this communication- we will be back on schedule again next Monday! The week is well-underway, and students are absolutely loving their Alien In-line experience. A special shout out to all of our volunteers for supporting the kiddos in getting equipment on quickly so that they can spend more time skating!

Kindergarten Class and Teacher Update
A communication was sent out to kindergarten families only last week that we have an exciting opportunity to create a second Kindergarten class at TRS in a very long time. Because of our increased enrollment, we are able to provide the second class starting on February 3, 2025. Mrs. Wacker will continue to be the teacher for the A.M. class, which is comprised primarily of students that are picked up at 11:20 a.m. each day by a family member/caregiver. These students will continue to attend class as usual, starting at 8:36 and ending at 11:20 Monday to Friday.
The P.M. Kindergarten class runs from 12:00 P.M. until 2:44 P.M. Monday-Thursday and is comprised of students attending Summit Kids. These students will still be dropped off at their regular time with Summit in the morning, or with Summit at 8:30. Summit will then provide programming for the students up until their class starts at 12:00 P.M. Summit will then collect the students again at 2:44 to take them back to Summit until they are picked up by family or caregivers.
On Fridays, both Kindergarten classes will attend at the same time, providing students with the opportunity to connect with friends, and for teachers to co-teach and break out into a variety of spaces within the school. Fridays will run on our usual morning schedule: 8:36-11:20.
We are excited to announce that Ms. Renette Kurz is taking on the role as the teacher in the PM Kindergarten class. Ms. Kurz has been with us a literacy and numeracy support teacher since November, and she has been working extensively with the Kindergarten class and Ms. Wacker.
Kindergarten Registration
Our kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year will begin on January 13th- next Monday! We are excited to begin the enrolment process for next school year. If you have children that are eligible for kindergarten, or if you have neighbours/friends within Montgomery that have kindergarten-aged children, please do let them know of the upcoming date. There is no cut-off for registration, but the sooner we have an idea of numbers in kindergarten, the sooner we are able to make plans the the class(es). The following links will be useful in the process: PDF INFORMATION & the CBE Kindergarten Registration Page
Fees and Waivers
At Terrace Road, we want to ensure that all families have access to education without financial burden. There are central fees applied to you MyCBE account, such as lunch room and student supplies. There are also School Fees that are applied to cover the cost of field trips and activities/in-school experiences. If you need to apply for a fee waiver, please visit this PAGE on the CBE site. If you have any additional questions, please come to the office and Sherisse will be happy to support!
CBE Family Literacy Week
Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, with a focus on environmental learning through the theme “Learn to Be Green, Together.”
The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team has prepared a variety of information and activities to help families engage in meaningful learning at home and at school. Reading together or doing learning activities at home is crucial to a child’s learning and development.
Here’s how families can participate:
- CBE At-Home Activities & Resources
Find ways to make learning fun and impactful. - Family Literacy Day At-Home Activities & Resources
Engage in other literacy-related activities as a family - Calgary Public Library Family Game Time
Participate in interactive games designed to strengthen literacy skills and family bonds.
Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups across Canada have taken part in Family Literacy Day which takes place every Jan. 27.
Have a wonderful week, everyone, and please do stop into the office at any point if you have questions or require support accessing fees, waivers, or report cards!!
