Dear TRS Families,
I hope you are all staying warm as we begin the week. Today, we are excited to welcome our PM Kindergarten class, which begins at 12:00 PM and will run until 2:44 with Ms. Renette. Additionally, Semester 2 is now officially underway, and we look forward to a great term of learning and growth. With the extremely cold temperatures this week, we anticipate indoor recesses; however, students in the Polar Tiger Club will have the option to go outside. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Thank you for your continued support, and let’s have a fantastic week ahead!
Black History Month
February marks Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, achievements, and rich heritage of Black Canadians. Throughout history, Black communities have played a vital role in shaping our country, and this month provides an opportunity for learning, reflection, and growth. As a school, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and represented. Throughout the month, our students will engage in meaningful activities and discussions that highlight Black history, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice. Thank you for your support as we work together to create a learning environment that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
TRS Choice Day
This Friday marks our first TRS Choice Day, which will be in spirit with Family Fridays. Students will be checking out Teacher "Club" offerings early in the week, and writing down their top 3 choices. On Friday, we will have students join their selected club for 45 minutes in cross-grade groups. Offerings include sports in the gym, reading club, ozo-bot club, knitting, line dancing and many more. We are excited for students to have a voice in their learning, and for teachers to share some of their passions with students! TRS Choice Days will occur 1-2 times per month!
Learning Commons Update
The Learning Commons has been very busy this month with the arrival of new fiction, non-fiction and picture books. Students submitted book requests over the past few months, which were added to the order.
There were many requests specifically for Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter and The New Girl by Cassandra Calin. We can't wait for our students to get their hands on these!
There will be a Library Club formed for students who have an interest in organizing/tidying bookshelves and helping out with the maintenance and wellbeing of our resident fish.

Blue Days
This week will be very cold, with temperatures keeping us inside for much of the day. If your child is in Polar Tiger Club, we will be taking them outside occassionally. Please ensure that your children arrive dressed warmly, with jacket, mittens, a toque, snowpants, and appropriate footwear! The doors will be unlocked in the morning to allow students to come directly in to their usual meeting spots to start their days!
Pink Shirt Day
In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!
