Dear TRS Students and Families,
Welcome back to a beautiful week of learning at TRS! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable weekend and that you were able to be outside with your families!
This is a short week of learning at TRS, as Friday is a professional learning day and we will be partially off-campus with two other schools to take part in CBE professional learning.
With the wetter conditions, please do remind your kiddos to be careful on the ice and to stear clear of puddles, unless they want to be wet, which is never really conducive to learning.
Commitment to Communication
A priority at Terrace Road School continues to be open and transparent communication with families regarding student learning. As such we update teacher blogs routinely, and those updates are emailed out Fridays. The blogs are also stored on our website by clicking HERE. As well, it our hope that students are routinely bringing home their communication folders. Our goal between now and the end of the year is for each class to send home 4 pieces of writing, as that is one of our School Development Plan goals at Terrace Road School this year. Along with the evidence of student writing, there will be a rubric for students to complete with a parent or caregiver, as well as a Two Stars and a Wish on the back (two highlights of the work, and a next step. Below is what you should expect to see from the school--our commitment is to send home the 4 pieces of writing between now and June to allow families to see how their students are doing, and to provide voice in learning.
Cell Phones
Students have been excellent in keeping their personal devices such as phones and smart watches away for the day. Recently, I have seen more coming out in the school at the end of the day. If your child does have a smart device, please do remind them of the policiy in place in ALL schools across the CBE and Alberta- it is away for the day (while on school property).
Survey Season
As you know, we continue to plan for this school year, with an eye of preparing for next year. We also continue to grow in terms of our population- and the more input we can have from families, the better informed we will be in making decisions that impact families, students and teachers for next year. There are the following surveys to complete:
- Education Assurance Survey- This information is used to get a pulse of the community and to better understand how staff, students, and families are feeling about the school in general. All families of children in grade 4,5,6 at TRS will have received an email today with a link to the survey, and their random access code to initiate the survey.
- Enrollment Survey- 2025-26 We are beginning to plan for the 2025-26 school year with Kindergarten enrollments coming in quickly and CBE planning and numbers projections coming to schools in the spring. Please take time to fill out this survey that will help us to better understand real student numbers for next year: SURVEY
- Terrace Road School Planning Survey- Budget and Fees We typically get 15-20 results for this survey. We would like to have more information, so please do consider completing at your earliest convenience! This survey can be accessed HERE.
Facility Operator
There is currently a strike involving the facility operators in all CBE schools. Information on the strike is emailed directly to families, and can be accessed from our school web site. We are open and business as usual- though breakfast club is happening outside due to the fact that there is limited ability to clean spills!
Lost and Found
We have an abundance of clothing, both indoor and outdoor, in our lost and found. Ms. Tracey has been in charge of pulling out clothing with names written on, but other than that, most is 'nameless' but looking for a home. Please feel free to come in and have a look if you are missing any clothing items.
Staffing Update
We are excited to welcome 2 additional staff members to Terrace Road School! First off, we are happy to welcome Susan Liu as our new Facility Operator at Terrace Road School! We are looking forward to working with Ms. Susan and are thankful to have her as an important member of our TRS Family! Secondly, we welcome back Ms. Mackenzie Bell as an education assistant. Ms. Mackenzie was with us prior to the Christmas break, and we are thankful to be able to have her back with us again at TRS supporting student learning!
Pink Shirt Day
In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!
Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!
