Dear TRS Families,
Welcome back to another exciting week of learning at TRS. In spite of the Olympic heartbreak we collectively experienced in hockey, our community is proud of all of all of our athletes for their dedication, sportsmanship, resiliency, and effort. Last week, we sent home our new logo on t-shirts for every student at TRS- A special shout out to our School Council for supporting with the logo re-design and for the new swag! When washing, please turn shirts inside out to preserve the logo! On-line orders will arrive in early March.
Report Cards
Term 1 report cards will be available to families on February 24 through the MyCBE/PowerSchool portal. These reports offer a valuable snapshot of your child’s learning and growth to this point in the school year. We encourage families to review the report card together with your child—celebrating achievements, talking about next steps, and setting goals for the months ahead. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress in more detail, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Pink Shirt Day & Celebration of Learning
On Wednesday, February 25, we will recognize Pink Shirt Day as a school community. Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity for us to stand together against bullying and to reinforce the importance of kindness, inclusion, and respect in our school. We invite all students and staff to wear a pink shirt as a visible show of support and commitment to creating a safe and caring environment for everyone.
That same morning, our Grade 3/4 community will be hosting a Celebration of Learning. Families are warmly invited to join us to see and celebrate the wonderful learning taking place in our classrooms. We look forward to sharing this meaningful morning together.
School Council
This Thursday, we have our monthly School Council Meeting at 6:00 pm. The meeting is a hybrid meeting, meaning that you can attend online (link sent out day of) or in-person at TRS.
At this particular council meeting, I will be discussing our School Development Plan and our School Fees, inclusive of field trips and in-house experiences. Parents will have the opportunity to provide feedback and offer suggestions for field trips moving into next year.
Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Terrace Road School from March 9–12, with classes visiting in the mornings to explore exciting new books and reading treasures. Families are invited to shop together on March 13 from 1–5 pm during Student-led Conferences — a perfect opportunity to build home libraries while supporting our school. We are also seeking volunteers to help make this event a success. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Jackie Bouchard at jabouchard@cbe.ab.ca.
School Development Plan
This week, as part of our school development plan actions, I am asking in Circle Talks for students to share a story about a time that they stood up for someone- a peer, a friend, a parent, a teacher. An important component of our school development plan is ensuring that all students in our school feel a sense of safety, and have a plan for when they do not feel safe. This links to our School Pledge directly in asking all learners to have accountability for their voices and their choices, and integrity in all that they do. As we think about Pink Shirt Day, our commitment is to ensure that the conversation is enduring while students attend our school, and not limited to one important day per year.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey
The Alberta Education Assurance Survey is an important opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to share their perspectives on learning, school climate, and overall well-being at Terrace Road School. Students in Grades 4–6, along with parents and teachers, are invited to participate. Parents will receive their random access codes via email, which are required to complete the survey. We are now at 30+ surveys completes. Please access the link HERE. Randome access codes were emailed to families two weeks ago.
TRS Flex Time- After-School Learning Support
We are excited to introduce TRS Flex – Homework Help, a new after-school learning support opportunity for students. TRS Flex will take place every Wednesday from 3:15–4:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons and will be facilitated by Mr. Buchanan and Ms. Hassen, beginning January 21.
This program is intended to support students who may need extra assistance with assignments or learning concepts. Students are encouraged to bring work they would like help with, ask questions, and strengthen their understanding in a calm, small-group environment.
Have a great week, everyone, and see you all at conferences in March!
