Dear TRS Students and Families,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing long weekend, filled with rest, fun, and time with loved ones. As we return to school, we are excited for a great (though shorter) week of learning, growth, and connection. Even though the temperatures are still frigid, and we’ll be staying inside for recess today, we’ll still find ways to stay engaged, active, and connected with one another.

Please do ensure that your children are coming to school dressed appropriately-although we will not be going outside for recesses, there is always the chance (small) that there is an emergency and that we will need to exit the building.

This week, we have our 2nd Student Choice Day on Friday, in which students spend 45 minutes with another teacher and students from grade K-6 in a cross-grade community building time. The first student choice day was a huge success, and we are looking forward to our second!

Lost and Found

We have an abundance of clothing, both indoor and outdoor, in our lost and found. Ms. Tracey has been in charge of pulling out clothing with names written on, but other than that, most is 'nameless' but looking for a home. Please feel free to come in and have a look if you are missing any clothing items.

Staffing Update

We are excited to welcome 2 additional staff members to Terrace Road School! First off, we are happy to welcome Susan Liu as our new Facility Operator at Terrace Road School! We are looking forward to working with Ms. Susan and are thankful to have her as an important member of our TRS Family! Secondly, we welcome back Ms. Mackenzie Bell as an education assistant. Ms. Mackenzie was with us prior to the Christmas break, and we are thankful to be able to have her back with us again at TRS supporting student learning!

Blue Days

This week will be very cold, with temperatures keeping us inside for much of the day. If your child is in Polar Tiger Club, we will be taking them outside occassionally. Please ensure that your children arrive dressed warmly, with jacket, mittens, a toque, snowpants, and appropriate footwear! The doors will be unlocked in the morning to allow students to come directly in to their usual meeting spots to start their days!

Pink Shirt Day

In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!

Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!
