Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to another great week at TRS! We have a lot happening in the next few days, so please take note of some important reminders.

This is a short week, as there will be no school on Thursday and Friday due to the Teachers’ Convention. Additionally, there will be no school on Monday as we observe Family Day in Alberta. We hope you all enjoy the extra time with your loved ones!

The weather is very cold, so please make sure students are dressed appropriately with warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots. Staying warm is important, especially during arrival, dismissal, and recess.

Attendance Matters! While we want to see all students in class, if your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home to rest and recover. Otherwise, we encourage everyone to arrive on time each day to make the most of their learning.

Exciting Spirit Days!

  • Today: Dress Like a teacher, Dress like a student day!
  • Tomorrow (Tuesday): Crazy Hair Day! Get creative and show off your wackiest, most colorful hairstyles!
  • Wednesday: Pink, Red, and White Day in celebration of Valentine’s Day! Students are welcome to bring Valentine’s cards for their classmates. If participating, please ensure that every student in the class receives a card. Small non-food items like stickers or pencils are allowed, but please do not send candy or treats to share.

Learning Commons Update

The Learning Commons has been very busy this month with the arrival of new fiction, non-fiction and picture books. Students submitted book requests over the past few months, which were added to the order.

There were many requests specifically for Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter and The New Girl by Cassandra Calin. We can't wait for our students to get their hands on these!

There will be a Library Club formed for students who have an interest in organizing/tidying bookshelves and helping out with the maintenance and wellbeing of our resident fish.

Blue Days

This week will be very cold, with temperatures keeping us inside for much of the day. If your child is in Polar Tiger Club, we will be taking them outside occassionally. Please ensure that your children arrive dressed warmly, with jacket, mittens, a toque, snowpants, and appropriate footwear! The doors will be unlocked in the morning to allow students to come directly in to their usual meeting spots to start their days!

Pink Shirt Day

In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!

Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!
