Hello Terrace Road Families,

I wanted to take this time to wish each of you a peaceful and fun-filled holiday season! The first part of our year has flown by, and it is only going to go by faster in the months to come with all of our exciting residencies like Alien In-Line, Lacrosse and Fit-Set Ninja, amongst other exciting activities for learning!

Thank you to each of you who were able to come and support your children at our annual Winter Concert- the students rose up to the occasion and performed so well in front of a huge, supportive crowd!

A special acknowledgement to Mrs. McMillan for the amazing work she does with students in order to prepare for an event like that-- it was definitely memorable for everyone!

Bake Sale

Ms. Kurz has been working with the Business Club (Math extension group) in putting together a bake-sale fundraiser. The bake sale will take place on Wednesday, December 18. The Business Club has a cart of baking and goodies ready to take from class to class tomorrow. IF YOU HAVE BAKED GOODS TO BRING IN, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE. WE CAN ADD THEM TO THE CART TOMORROW.

If students are able, they can bring in some small change, as most items will cost $0.50 cents to a dollar. The proceeds from this endeavor will support in helping us to purchase new PE equipment as students need to have a voice and ownership over new things coming into our school- they will take better care of them in this way.

Holiday Giving

Once again this year, we are going to be supporting the Terrace Road Families in need during our Holiday Season! Last year, we were able to ensure that everyone had access to food, essentials, and some gifts during this time. This year, we are once again asking those who can to please consider donating gift cards to the school. We are particularly looking for gift cards of ANY denomination from Safeway, Superstore and Wal-Mart. Please bring the cards to Sherisse in the office and we will ensure that they are distributed to families before the break. Thank you in advance for your generosity! If you are sending the cards via student delivery, please make sure that your student is aware that the cards NEED to come directly to the office. Please have gift cards to the office by December 16th.

Missing Pylon Support

Our School Safety Patrols require 4 pylons to safely set up their stations. We have purchased new pylons, but 3 of them have gone missing. Is there a known pylon collector in Montgomery? If you see any errant school pylons, please let us know and we will retrieve it! Cheers and thanks!

Adult Entry Into TRS

We are asking ALL adults in our community to enter the building ONLY through the front doors. With the number of students in our halls, it is a safety risk if there are adults in the building who have not entered through the front door and checked in at the office.

Terrace Road Pledge

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

We show respect for ourselves, others and the land.

We are the Terrace Road Tigers.

Clothing

We have had several families reach out and ask if they can donate food to our school. We believe we have enough snacks for now in order to ensure that no one goes hungry while at school. However, we could use some donations of gently used or new clothing—sweat pants, t-shirts and boys and girls underwear, are particularly low (more in our kindergarten-Grade 3 bins). If you have any gently used items, or if you happen to have new gear that you do not need, we would gladly accept it!

Communication

Each Friday, teachers have time to update their blogs and make sure that families have a window into the learning of their child’s classroom!  Please do take time to read through the short messages, see the pictures, and use the update to engage in conversation with your child about learning happening at school! When we are all all-in on student learning, students feel supported, safe, and secure in taking risks in their learning and we all have a clear understanding of what students are currently able to do in their learning.

Communication Folders will be a key aspect of our vision for communication this year between home and school. These folders are zip-up, durable plastic folders that will contain student artifacts of learning for parents to look through with their children, ask questions about, and engage in learning from the home. When there is an artifact of learning, there will be a signature page attached, with room for a parent comment as well.

Thank you for your continued support of our programming at TRS!
