We are excited to welcome all students and families back to TRS for a full week of learning and connection. This week brings some wonderful opportunities for our students, including the start of our Sound Kreations residency, which will fill our halls with creativity and energy. We also look forward to our Fun Lunch on Thursday—a favourite for many students—and will be conducting our second Lockdown Practice as part of our ongoing commitment to school safety. Thank you, as always, for your continued support as we learn and grow together.

Sound Kreations

From April 6–10, our school will welcome artists from Sound Kreations for an exciting week-long residency. During this time, students will have the opportunity to explore rhythm, music, and creative expression through engaging, hands-on workshops. Experiences like this bring learning to life and allow students to collaborate, take creative risks, and celebrate the arts together. We look forward to a week filled with energy, creativity, and plenty of great music! 🎶🥁A huge shout out goes to our TRS School Council for paying the entire cost of this residency for our Terrace Road Students!!

TRS Flex Time!

Terrace Road School Flex Time is a great opportunity for students in Grades 1–6 to get extra support with their learning in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Held every Wednesday from 3:16–4:00 pm in our Learning Commons, Flex Time invites students to bring homework, practice skills, or get help with concepts they may be unsure about. Mr. B and Ms. Hassen are available during this time to work alongside students, providing guidance and support to help build confidence and understanding.

April 9 Lock Down Number #2

As part of our ongoing commitment to student and staff safety, we will be conducting our second lockdown drill under the guidance of the Calgary Police Service. In the Calgary Board of Education, all schools are required to complete two lockdown drills and six fire drills each year. These practices are an important part of ensuring that everyone in our building understands safety procedures and can respond calmly and effectively in the event of an emergency.

The TRS SDP in Action

Our School Development Plan is not just a document at Terrace Road School—it is something that truly lives within our classrooms and daily practice. In each of my classroom visits, it is clear that our focus on literacy is embedded and thriving across all learning environments. This was especially evident during a visit to Room 12 this morning, where students had just finished sharing their thinking around how adding meaningful details can enrich their writing. These authentic learning moments highlight how our collective commitment to strengthening literacy is making a tangible impact on student understanding and growth.

Coupon Book Fundraiser

Hello parents,

Our Coupon Book fundraiser is now underway! Your child should have already brought home an envelope with two coupon books and an order form for any additional purchases.

If you would like to purchase the books, please place the money in the envelope and return it to the school by April 15th. Many families find it helpful to have one for each vehicle and even a few extras for extended family members 🙂

If you prefer not to purchase or sell the books, please return the envelope along with the coupon books to the school at your earliest convenience.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our school fundraisers.

Calgary Food Bank Spring Into Action Food Drive at TRS

From April 19-April 25, our school will be participating in a food drive in order to support families in need across the city. Donations can be brought in to our main office during that entire week of April 19. Please see info from the Calgary Food Bank Below:

We would be delighted if your School was a part of our First Annual Spring into Action Food Drive - April 19 - 25. At the Calgary Food Bank, we are currently distributing over 900 Emergency Food Hampers a day, and providing food to over 80 charities throughout Calgary. Your involvement to support these initiatives would be greatly appreciated!

Annual TRS Crocus Hunt

Last year at Terrace Road School, we started a new tradition for one of the first signs of spring in Alberta, which is the appearance of the crocus. We would love to continue that traditional this year- once the snow has most cleared, we invite families to go on walks and snap some beautiful photos of the crocus. We will add these to our Crocus Bulletin Board in our main foyer, now known internally as the Confluence- where the Bow Hallway meets the Elbow Hallway in our school. Crocus photos can be emailed to djbuchanan@cbe.ab.ca.

Attendance Intentions

Each year at this time, we ask families to complete a brief survey regarding attendance intentions for the next school year. The information provided is essential in helping us to plan classroom contexts, teaching assignments, some budgetary items.
