Dear TRS Families!
Welcome back to another exciting week of learning at Terrace Road School. The weather is looking wonderful this week, which is so lucky as we will be spending so much time learning outdoors with our Yellowsteps residency. This is our first FULL WEEK of school in a number of weeks, and we are excited to have everyone here all week long!
Yellow Steps Residency
We start our Yellowsteps Residency today. Yellowsteps, is a residency that is focused on place-based learning, and teachers have been working with Jenn Doeve to plan engaging tasks that will take into account the student learning as they walk to specific points through our neighbourhood, including Hextall Park, the senior's centre, Montalban Park, Dale Hodges Park Etc. We are excited to explore our community and connect with it in a deeper nature- extending our understanding of the importance of our place. Please check out Ms. Jenn on instagram at @yellowstepslearning to see more of her work in past residencies.
CommuniTEA
Our first CommuniTEA event on Thursday morning was so successful thanks to our wonderful and engaged parent community. In this first event, we discussed the role of discipline in school, and our implementation and theory behind discipline. We discussed the role of technology and social media in our lives, and the impact and fallout in schools. We also discussed the Calgary Board of Education's progressive student discipline policy, student code of conduct, and some typial scenarios that we encounter here at the school. Our next communiTEA is planned for May 30th at 9:00 a.m. and the topic will be technology. We hope to see you there for tea, goodies, and discussion!
Logo Redesign Initial Survey Closing SOON!
Our logo redesign initial survey will be closing at the end of the month (April 30). Thank you to the many collective minds that are working towards reshaping and re-imagining what our school can mean and be in Montgomery. There have been many submissions focused on community, care, and relationship, with a focus on our beautiful surroundings here in Montgomery. Please access the survey HERE if you have not yet had the chance.
Learning Commons Update
This April has been a vibrant month in the Learning Commons! Students eagerly dove into the wonderful selection of new books that arrived thanks to the Scholastic Book Fair and the Scholastic Dollars earned. The excitement over these fresh reads has created a real buzz around literacy. Furthermore, the Learning Commons became a hub for thoughtful discussions and learning surrounding Earth Day. Through engaging stories, students explored the importance of environmental stewardship and shared practical ways everyone can contribute to taking care of our planet, fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness.

School Council Specail Guest Speaker- May 14
Join us for an evening of information, sharing and discussion about one of the most important issues facing this generation of parents and teachers: the impact of digital media and technology on our children. We will be joined by Dr. Sheri Madigan, a professor of psychology at the University of Calgary and a Canada Research Chair in healthy child development. The discussion will include topics such as: the impact of smartphones, social media and other technology on children academically and socially, upcoming guidelines on screentime in children and practical strategies that parents/teachers can use to promote healthy use of digital media. Refreshments will be served and there will be time to discuss as a school community.
