Hello TRS Families and welcome to another wonderful week of learning at TRS. This is a short, but busy week of learning, punctuated by our second dance of the year on Thursday evening- please see details below. Once again, if you ever have any questions, or would like to discuss any matter in relation to learning or life at TRS, please feel free to drop into the office and chat!
Spring Dance
Our second dance of the year is happening on Thursday evening, and will be highlighted by a guest spot by DJ Jacek!! Please note that the K-3 portion of the dance will run from 6:00- 6:45, and the 4-6 dance will run from 7:00-7:50. There will be a photo booth, as always, and candy for sale by our business club! Parents or guardians are required to attend the dance with their children.
CommuniTEA
Our first TRS CommuniTEA will happen on April 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The purpose of the communitea is to gather stakeholders in TRS school- parents and guardians, share tea and light refreshments and engage in healthy conversations around particular "themes" as they relate to all things TRS. I will be a part of the communitea, but I am not "running it" per se. It is a conversational drop in. The theme on the 24th will be "discipline". Hope to see you there!
School Council Specail Guest Speaker- May 14
Join us for an evening of information, sharing and discussion about one of the most important issues facing this generation of parents and teachers: the impact of digital media and technology on our children. We will be joined by Dr. Sheri Madigan, a professor of psychology at the University of Calgary and a Canada Research Chair in healthy child development. The discussion will include topics such as: the impact of smartphones, social media and other technology on children academically and socially, upcoming guidelines on screentime in children and practical strategies that parents/teachers can use to promote healthy use of digital media. Refreshments will be served and there will be time to discuss as a school community.
Logo Redesign Initial Survey Closing SOON!
Our logo redesign initial survey will be closing at the end of the month (April 30). Thank you to the many collective minds that are working towards reshaping and re-imagining what our school can mean and be in Montgomery. There have been many submissions focused on community, care, and relationship, with a focus on our beautiful surroundings here in Montgomery. Please access the survey HERE if you have not yet had the chance.
Prairie Crocus/Anemone/Ki'piiapi
The time of spring is here! (most days) and with it, a renewed energy and sense of rejuvination! We have received many photos of students and families out on the land, enjoying nature- please keep them coming as our bulletin board is growing more and more beautiful daily! Remember to send your crocus snaps to djbuchanan@cbe.ab.ca!
Commitment to Communication
A priority at Terrace Road School continues to be open and transparent communication with families regarding student learning. As such we update teacher blogs routinely, and those updates are emailed out Fridays. The blogs are also stored on our website by clicking HERE. As well, it our hope that students are routinely bringing home their communication folders. Our goal between now and the end of the year is for each class to send home 4 pieces of writing, as that is one of our School Development Plan goals at Terrace Road School this year. Along with the evidence of student writing, there will be a rubric for students to complete with a parent or caregiver, as well as a Two Stars and a Wish on the back (two highlights of the work, and a next step. Below is what you should expect to see from the school--our commitment is to send home the 4 pieces of writing between now and June to allow families to see how their students are doing, and to provide voice in learning.
Thank you, everyone. Have a wonderful week and Go! Flames, GO!
